How to make geeky earrings from paper clips-step by step pictures

First off,
This blog entry is dedicated to one of my twitter friends called @n#####d aka G####A.
She is one cute geek and a nerdy one at that.
She totally wanted to see the earrings when I told her the other day that  I made my own earrings

As is usual  with many of my instructional blog entries, the story will be interspersed amongst the step by step pictures of how to make the earrings/

This blog is also dedicated to @ne###d for another reason. On the first day that we both met on twitter, she had just posted a picture of her wearing GEEKY BUTTERFLY EARRINGS..While I was making these earrings, I was suddenly reminded of her butterfly earrings

The simple earrings that i made are no where near as COOL as the butterfly earrings..But, hey,,My earrings take only five minutes to make from start to finish

The inspiration struck me when I was kneading bread dough.ya, ya,I make my own vegan bread.Go here
click on this to take a look at my bread

.So, yeah.i was kneading dough and My eyes fell up some Yellow paper clips lying on the counter and suddenly, I was like, "hey, I can make earrings with these!!!"

I had recently cut open a too tight bead necklace  and i had two blue beads amongst the bunch of other wooden beads.I like bead art and just couldn't resist using them for making these earrings .
You could use any other kind of beads or
make your own beads by
making small clay balls,
poking holes in them right through with a pin,
drying them in the sun
and then painting them
This blog entry can serve as a mini art project for kids aged 8-12..CHILDREN BELOW THE AGE OF 8 are forbidden from trying to make this on their own or wearing such earrings coz i fear they might POKE THEMSELVES while making or wearing them.
So yeah, anyone above the age of 12 is more than welcome to try making them for fun.I am a 31 year old doc..so, it is fair game.it is all in fun.And it takes just five min to make

If you look closely at my thumb in the pictures..you can see some dough still sticking to my thumb..I was just in a hurry to make the earrings and then get back to baking that i didn't wash my hands all that clean.
what type of paper clips to choose?
I chose these paper clips which have metal wires encased in colored plastic. Please don't use pure metal clips .They might rust and cause allergic reactions to the ear .
Also, these earrings only work for pierced ears

Here is how the earrings look after making them
Please note that the stem end is supposed to be a wee bit longer then the hooked end. That way ,clasping that end inside the hook becomes possible
Also, please make sure that the hook is turned outwards to the right for the right earrring and the hook is turned outwards to the left for the left earring.
We don't want the hooked end towards the face.

Finally,
This is me wearing the earring..Nothing special , but cute nevertheless

My dear Einstein

When i first signed up for Twitter, I so wanted to stand out..I wanted to showcase my talents.
I am a physician by profession..But my nimble fingers not only perform accurately skillful surgical procedures, they also manage to play musical instruments, sketch some original stuff and do some great knitting and embroidery.

Coming back to when i first signed up on twitter> I decided that instead of just  mentioning that i was an artist , why not showcase one of my favorite sketches of all time?

You know, Much like, PROOF OF THE PUDDING..

When people get to see samples of your work , they believe you more .More than just believing my word for it .

My page background on twitter has been changed many times since then, but for the longest time, this sketch sat there-in all its sweet glory -almost for 4 or 5 months I think!

Here goes the sketch

THE STORY BEHIND THE EINSTEIN SKETCH

While I was in med school, I often would sit there in the TV room with my study books .
Yeah.I have this bad lil habit of studying WHILE watching TV..with the TV on mute for most part..or very loud..Kinda helps me focus more for some reason.
As i study the tough principles and classifications from my med textbooks,  I take a 10 min breather every hour, wherein i watch TV uninterrupted.A mini diversion break, so that I don't go all mad with the med school study sessions.
It is during one of those 10 min breaks that I sketched this.
Since i only had a refill pen on hand and no pencil,I drew this sketch with an Ink pen.The kind of pen that we all usually use to write out study notes .
Why Einstein you ask?
The thing is, there was a newspaper lying around there in the living room.During my 10 min break I picked up the Science and Technology page and there staring in my face was a beautiful black and white picture of Einstein.
WHAT AN AUSTERE LOOKING FACE WITH A SMART PERSON'S HALO!
Sudden inspiration strikes and  I quickly set out to sketch his face .
Within 10 minutes..Voila !
Very satisfied with the end result.
As a matter of fact, this sketch happens to me my favorite of all times-Out of all the sketches i have ever sketched..
WHY?
Because i sketched it with a pen--no use of eraser and that would mean..ZERO SCOPE FOR MISTAKES .
So, unless you are a good sketcher(cough cough-self praise meter just burst to max) you can't accomplish a sketch in pen within 10 min..
These days.. I seriously don't indulge in the joy of sketching and painting as much as i would like to..I am trying to get back to the golden form of yester-years..LOL

Window patches-Headache and distance

Time to paint again.

Btw..it is so amazing how a person can be so so far away from you and yet hold this influence on you to such an extent that they are capable of causing a headache to you with each stupid cocky thing they do .Hmmmmm..Or is it that i am talking this person too seriously to let them affect me so much ?

Yoko ono and Basquiat !

Till i read up on her ,yoko that is, I never knew that she was an artist in her own right and she was an artist long before she met John Lennon.( and I mean, IS an artist ,she prolly released music in 2007 too).My only info so far about Yoko has been what i read about her in wikipedia, and here i have to stop and insisit that starting something like wikipedia was such a good idea...
But having said that, everyone needs to remember that wikipedia is a people edited encyclopedia and therefore is bound to have mistakes or rumors ,sometimes till someone else is intelligent enough to edit them out.but for most part, I AM HAPPY WITH WIKIPEDIA.
Coming back to yoko, looks like Lennon met her while he was still married to his previous wife.Infact , apparently he had come to see her art exhibits while he was still married to his then wife and looks like two years down the line they were together or some such.
Digressing as usual but just had to butt in and say how it is sad when married men somehow manage to have affairs, Married people in general ! I mean, if they are in a miserable marriage(which is a possibility given how people are just so in love with this idea of marriage or are so in need of temporary companionship that they choose to marry any odd person whom they are not that into but will still marry just for the selfish reason that for a temporary time they don't  want to be lonely,hmmm-very sad!-I always have to add my social commentary everywhere,no?..gosh !).
So yeah , anyways ,coming back to Yoko, looks like, in that exhibiton of her art work, she had this wall full of nails and each person who visited the art exhibition was invited to nail down one  nail into that wall of nails with a hammer.Very interesting concept..Looks like I might like her works of art...Must check more of them out, including her music.
It is a pity  that people only think of her as this person who married Lennon.I mean, given the fact that she is an artist in her own right, she has more to her than just being lennon's wife or lover.which i never knew about till i looked her up on wikipedia.
Speaking of unique art let us talk about Basquiat.
Looks like he has this habit of labelling stuff in his paintings.I had a look at his paintings after watching a film about him.You know what? when i sketch, especially with ink , i tend to label stuff too....
way back when i was 12, i made a funny cartoonish sketch of my mom and labelled all the body parts with funny captions and commentary..I stuck it inside the cover of my red diary..I think ( i hope) that piece of sketch is still there at my parents.
All these artists,, they are all disturbed or messed up in some ways right? is that what causes the heightened sense of perception ?prolly..
Eventually they are looking to sell this high art to make a living , right?
I am working on novels and books which will be ready in a couple of years, I am also working on a cookery show project which will be presentable in another couple of years, right?
Eventually, it all comes from exposing myself to a lot of people, many of them not so good, and that kinda makes me aware of the pain on the surface of this earth, the twistedness and what not and that is what gives me material for my stories..
well,,if i only get exposed to good, would I  still write stories?.. the twistedness is what is gonna help me write..
it is almost like being a physician. I depend on sick people to make my living, but that doesn't necessarily mean that i want people to get sick...Ya know..
So yeah, what i was trying to get at is,In my opinion, artists(real ones-not the fake mediocre ones) , they are blessed or rather cursed by a heightened perception of things around them that kinda makes them create the art they create...but then, eventually, that doesn't make them superior coz eventually at the end of it all, they still depend on acceptance or recognition from the not so talented masses to make their living..So it is eventually the not so talented man that is paying for the talented lot...what an irony !
