She is one cute geek and a nerdy one at that.
She totally wanted to see the earrings when I told her the other day that I made my own earrings
As is usual with many of my instructional blog entries, the story will be interspersed amongst the step by step pictures of how to make the earrings/
This blog is also dedicated to @ne###d for another reason.On the first day that we both met on twitter, she had just posted a picture of her wearing GEEKY BUTTERFLY EARRINGS..While I was making these earrings, I was suddenly reminded of her butterfly earrings
The simple earrings that i made are no where near as COOL as the butterfly earrings..But, hey,,My earrings take only five minutes to make from start to finish
sThe inspiration struck me when I was kneading bread dough.ya, ya,I make my own vegan bread.Go here
click on this to take a look at my bread.So, yeah.i was kneading dough and My eyes fell up some Yellow paper clips lying on the counter and suddenly, I was like, "hey, I can make earrings with these!!!"
I had recently cut open a too tight bead necklace and i had two blue beads amongst the bunch of other wooden beads.I like bead art and just couldn't resist using them for making these earrings .
You could use any other kind of beads or
make your own beads by
making small clay balls,
poking holes in them right through with a pin,
drying them in the sun
and then painting them
This blog entry can serve as a mini art project for kids aged 8-12..CHILDREN BELOW THE AGE OF 8 are forbidden from trying to make this on their own or wearing such earrings coz i fear they might POKE THEMSELVES while making or wearing them.
So yeah, anyone above the age of 12 is more than welcome to try making them for fun.I am a 31 year old doc..so, it is fair game.it is all in fun.And it takes just five min to make
If you look closely at my thumb in the pictures..you can see some dough still sticking to my thumb..I was just in a hurry to make the earrings and then get back to baking that i didn't wash my hands all that clean.
what type of paper clips to choose?
I chose these paper clips which have metal wires encased in colored plastic.Please don't use pure metal clips .They might rust and cause allergic reactions to the ear .
Also, these earrings only work for pierced ears
Here is how the earrings look after making them
Please note that the stem end is supposed to be a wee bit longer then the hooked end.That way ,clasping that end inside the hook becomes possible
Also, please make sure that the hook is turned outwards to the right for the right earrring and the hook is turned outwards to the left for the left earring.
We don't want the hooked end towards the face.

This is me wearing the earring..Nothing special , but cute nevertheless
